Washington Presents 'Insomnia'
To coincide with the international release of Washington’s platinum selling, ARIA award winning debut album, I Believe You Liar, Australian fans will be the only audience in the world to be offered a brand new eight-track companion piece - Insomnia.
Insomnia is not a new Washington studio album. Variously described as a ‘magpie’s nest’ and ‘an eight-legged spider’ the project is an extension of the themes explored through the closing title track on her debut album. All of the material from Insomnia was written in the 12 manic months following the release of I Believe You Liar in Australia and includes the current radio favourite ‘Holy Moses’.
If you listen closely to ‘Holy Moses,’ you’ll hear trash-can lids and knitting needles improvising for instruments, listen even closer and you'll hear the ghosts of post-show and late-night adventures. The stunning video directed by Stephen Lance and Mairi Cameron, features 21st century-meets- Bob Fosse performance and production, with Washington at the centre of a magical world of her own making. Insomnia is a very personal collection of songs reflecting the undercurrent of moods and feelings at play during a particularly intense and exhilarating period in Washington’s life. Insomnia will be available ONLY in Australia on 21 October 2011
A vinyl deluxe version of Insomnia will also be made available from Washington’s website only www.washingtonmusic.com.au featuring clear 10” vinyl, beautifully packaged with exclusive artwork, prose and photography from Washington’s personal archives.
On the same date, Australian audiences will be able to purchase the international version of I Believe You Liar, remixed by 4 x Grammy Award winner Michael Brauer. The repackaged version of the debut album includes two songs from Insomnia, along with new artwork. It will be available separately or as a collector’s edition box set with Insomnia and all associated artwork and exclusive content.
I Believe You Liar will be released in the US on October 11 and in the UK / Europe on November 7.
Washington embarks on a 20 date US tour this month with synth-rock pioneers OMD before undertaking her own headline tour of the UK in November. Special Australian dates for Insomnia will be announced in the near future.
